Commentary
And when the turning away from Him, despite His greatness in the statement, is a disregard for Him and for those who come after Him, He indicated this with the tool of delay and said: ﴿Then﴾ meaning: after what He has of high rank in Himself and in relation to whom He sent. And when the original natures are inclined towards embracing the truth, and are drawn to turning to Allah and remaining at His door, and seeking refuge with Him, except with effort from the soul in repelling and treating the causes of destruction, He indicated this by expressing it in the form of 'tafa'ul' and said: ﴿They turned away from Him﴾ meaning: they obeyed what called them to turn away from Him due to the inclinations of desires and the pulls of lusts and interests. ﴿And they said﴾ meaning: in addition to their wrongdoing by turning away: ﴿A teacher﴾ meaning: someone taught him from among the humans. ﴿A madman﴾ so they did not care about the clear contradiction of the matter. And this indicates that whoever does not care about his presentation and has no shame, there is no goodness in his remedy because there is no existence for his remedy. And that if he is touched by what softens him, and brings him back, and humiliates him, he does not feel secure from returning to the bad state when that harm is uncovered from him.
