Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned the Hour in relation to 'Isa, blessings and peace be upon him, He said, "And indeed, it is knowledge of the Hour" [Az-Zukhruf: 61]. He affirmed its matter and explained some of its conditions until He concluded with what indicated the dissolution of their resolves and the softness of their complaints. They were not acknowledging that. He said, affirming in response to one who sees some sight and says: Is this true? And he expects the answer: "Indeed, We have come to you"; that is, in this Surah specifically and all of the Qur'an generally. He named the coming of the messengers as a coming to them due to the greatness that the noon indicated, "with the truth" which is complete in its truthfulness. And when the appearance of its truth is such that it is not hidden from anyone, however, the intensity of hatred and the intensity of love make people see things differently than they are. He indicated this by saying: "But most of you"; that is, O you who are being addressed, "are averse to the truth" due to what it entails of preventing from desires. Therefore, you say: It is not the truth solely because of your aversion, not because there is a type of obscurity in its truth.
