And when he mentioned what is for the second group of the righteous, which is the encouragement for them in piety, he followed it with what is for their opposites, the people of the first group, as a warning against similar actions. He said, beginning anew and emphasizing in response to their denial: ﴿Indeed, the criminals﴾, meaning those who are firmly established in severing what Allah has commanded to be connected ﴿in the punishment of Hell﴾, meaning the fire whose nature is to meet its inhabitants with frowning, hatred, and scowling, just as they used to act when severing the bonds with the allies of Allah, glorified and exalted is He. ﴿They will remain﴾ because their crime was a nature for them that they will not cease from as long as they exist.
