And when the warning of that Day encompassed the wrongdoers, Quraysh and others entered into it. He followed it with something like an explanation, highlighting it in the context of a question because it is more terrifying. He said: ﴿Is﴾ and he stripped the verb, indicating the intensity of the closeness, as if it were in sight. He said: ﴿They are waiting﴾ meaning they are waiting for ﴿except the Hour﴾ meaning the Hour of general death, resurrection, and standing. For that is to confirm its occurrence as if it is present and seen.

And when he presented the Hour as a terror, it was a warning that its signs are so evident that they seem visible to the eye, shaking them to turn their eyes to seek its sight. He replaced it with an increase in the terror by His saying: ﴿That it may come to them﴾ and he confirmed the possibility of seeing it with His saying: ﴿Suddenly﴾. And since resurrection may be applied to what is unknown from some aspects, he removed this possibility with His saying: ﴿And they do not perceive﴾ meaning they do not attain at the very moment it comes a type of knowledge, nor anything like a hair of it.
