And when the decree was: If We had wished, We would have made all people from a female without a male. And if We had wished, We would have made you equal to them in that which We imposed upon them of humiliation when they made for Him a parable of evil. So We increased what you are in of humiliation and disgrace over the other nations by the fact that their authority over you has allowed them to violate you. And if We had wished, We would have erased you all from the face of the earth, leaving it as a house with no inhabitant in it. He then turned to His saying: 'And if We wished,' expressing with the present tense an indication of the continuity of His power to renew creation. He said: 'We create if We wish,' meaning by that, according to what We have of greatness, something stranger than what We have done in the matter of Jesus, blessings and peace be upon him. 'From you' means a creation beginning from you, either by birth as We made Jesus, blessings and peace be upon him, from a female without a male, and We made Adam, blessings and peace be upon him, from dust without a female or male, or by substitution: 'Angels on earth succeeding,' meaning they would be a succession for you, one after another, after your annihilation. So We made them a parable for you as We made Jesus, blessings and peace be upon him, a parable for the Children of Israel. It is permissible that the meaning is: We would have made some of you angels by transforming their creation, so that We make them a succession for those who have turned away from them, and We would succeed some of them over others. For they are among Our servants, bodies that accept birth as they accept creation. And in both scenarios, that indicates that the angels are possible beings among His servants, glorified and exalted is He, directing them in His will if He wishes in the heavens, and if He wishes in the earth. There is nothing from you except that it is very far from the rank of divinity, guiding them to believe in the truth of His matter, glorified and exalted is He, with the comprehensiveness of His power and the perfection of His necessary knowledge from which it follows that there is no deity except Him.
