And when his words were this way, establishing him in the eyes of those who reflect, not elevating him, and he had walked upon his followers because they were with the presumption without the favor, they are the most humiliated of anything to one whose worldly leadership has been established, even if he becomes dust. And the most disobedient to one whom the people have not understood, even if he performs great deeds. The listener longed for what he would be affected by, so he said: ﴿So he made light of﴾, meaning because of these deceptions with which he enchanted them in this speech that is, in reality, belittling to him, weakening his matter, and shattering his kingdom in the eyes of one who has understanding. ﴿His people﴾, who have great strength, were carried by his deception to what they were prepared for in the lightness of their minds. ﴿So they obeyed him﴾ by acknowledging his kingship, submitting to his greatness, and recognizing his lordship, and they rejected the matter of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him.

And when his words were as previously mentioned, the greatest weakening of his matter, and it is refuted (p-451) based on the estimation of its strength, is that Musa, blessings of Allah be upon him, brought what suffices against what he said about the bracelets and the appearance of the angels, that whatever he threatened them with, his actions, and whatever they requested from him, he would respond to them. So there was no call for the Egyptians to obey Pharaoh after they saw the signs except for the similarity in the wickedness of their souls. He, glorified and exalted is He, explained this with His saying, affirming what is suitable for their conditions, so He would accept their actions, and they are the majority: ﴿Indeed, they were﴾, meaning by what is in their natures of evil and hypocrisy, because they were ﴿a people﴾, meaning they had the strength of characteristics that necessitate for them arrogance except in the presence of one who overcomes them by what they are accustomed to from the worldly means. ﴿Disobedient﴾, meaning deeply rooted in departing from the obedience of Allah to disobedience, that has become for them a second nature.
