Commentary

And it indicates what does not cease from other than that by his saying: ﴿and adornment﴾ meaning gold and complete general beauty.

And since the word 'adornment' indicates that this matter is apparent and vanishing upon verification, he indicated it by his saying, confirming what has been established in the souls that the leaders in such matters, and what has been established among them that the happy in this world is happy in the Hereafter, on the condition of it being: ﴿And if﴾ meaning and what ﴿all of that﴾ meaning the matter that is far from good due to it being mostly distanced from what pleases us.

And because its owner remains poor even if the world has amassed for him wealth and kingship, for he must have something in himself that his ability cannot reach, so he remains at a loss. ﴿Except﴾ meaning - this is according to the reading of 'Asim and Hamzah with emphasis: and it is in the reading of the others with lightening, differing between the negating and the lightened. And what is confirmed and the news is ﴿the enjoyment of the worldly life﴾ meaning that which its name indicates its lowliness and that it has a rival which is the Hereafter, and it is cut off by death. Therefore, His mercy necessitated that He does not make it difficult for the believers mostly because the abundance diminishes them in the Hereafter and the reckoning is prolonged.

﴿And the Hereafter﴾ which no abode is equivalent to it, rather no abode of truth is like it. And since the addition to the Majestic indicates the greatness of the one to whom it is added, he said: ﴿with your Lord﴾ and he referred by the description of 'Lord' to the fact that greatness is with beauty and comfort, and by the addition to him, blessings and peace be upon him, in the highest of ranks.

﴿For the righteous﴾ meaning those who are always standing away from the slightest action except with evidence that no one else shares with them in it. And this is when 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, mentioned Kisra and Qaysar and what they had of blessings, the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Would you not be pleased that they have the world and we have the Hereafter?"

And it is not far-fetched that what has befallen the wicked from the tyrants of the adornment of buildings and the installation of ceilings and other than that from the evils of temptation is that the people become one nation in disbelief near the Hour until the Hour does not rise upon one who says: Allah. And in the time of the Dajjal, those who remain then upon the truth will be in the utmost scarcity, such that they will not be counted in comparison to the disbelievers, for the words of kings do not lack a reality, and if it comes in the form of a condition, how about with the King of kings.
