And when he knew that their matter had reached the point of stubbornness that nullifies the argument, he caused his saying to be a reminder for this nation and a clarification of what He has specifically granted them of mercy: ﴿So We took revenge﴾ meaning with the greatness that they deserved because of it ﴿from them﴾ so We destroyed them with the punishment of complete annihilation. The effect of the vengeance was great due to the command to look into it in His saying: ﴿So look﴾ meaning because of the need to understand that and by questioning, indicating that this matter is worthy of its greatness due to the obscurity of its cause. He said: ﴿How was the end of﴾ meaning the last of the ﴿deniers﴾ meaning Our sending, for they were all destroyed, and the believers were all saved. So let whoever rejected your message beware of something like that.
