Commentary
And when he knew of this acknowledgment from him and what followed it from the approximation that the entire world is interconnected by the subjugation of some to others, it was established that his Creator is distinct from him. It is not correct at all for Him to be in need in any way, for there is nothing like Him at all. The point of amazement is their attributing a son to Him, glorified and exalted is He. So he said, diverting the statement from their address to the rejection that indicates anger: ﴿And they made﴾ meaning, and if you were to ask them, they would certainly say such and such, which is necessary from them, for there is no like ﴿to Him﴾. Meanwhile, they attributed to Him and made by their saying before your questioning them a relation that they judge by a judgment they do not dispute in, as if they are capable of that, like the one who makes in it, making it ﴿from His servants﴾ whom He created as He created others. ﴿A part﴾ meaning, a son, is for their limiting him to the female, one of the two categories of children. And every part is from its parent, and whoever has a part is in need, so he cannot be a god. This is due to their saying: the angels are the daughters of Allah. Thus, it was established by this that their minds are foolish and their opinions are trivial.
And when this was in the utmost severity of disbelief, he said, confirming their denial that there is disbelief among them: ﴿Indeed, mankind﴾ meaning, this type of which they are some ﴿is surely a clear disbeliever﴾ meaning, he is manifesting disbelief in himself, calling out to it with disbelief, making it clear to everyone. This is what his nature necessitates, with what he is upon of deficiency in desires and pleasures, to clarify the virtue of the one whom Allah has preserved by reason over others from all creatures, by his striving against an enemy while he is between his sides, with the appearance of Allah's overwhelming power in that.
