And when their response was without these two attributes, and it indicated by mentioning them that there is no time for their acknowledgment, it served as a reminder to them of the place of the evidence. He followed them with his words indicating this by saying, turning to the address, because it was more effective in reprimanding, reproaching, and emphasizing, and reminding them of the kindness that necessitates submission, and detailing the power: "the One who made for you". For if that were their saying, they would have said to us, "the earth as a cradle", meaning a bed, a stable and firm place, and if He had willed, He would have made it unstable, in which nothing remains firm, as you see from some mountains, or He would have made it a table that does not remain firm due to being on the current of water. Al-Qushayri said: So when the duration of the existence of souls on earth ends, Allah decrees its destruction.
