Commentary
And when it was that whoever punishes with something less than death might think that he is incapable, He said: "And you are not beyond His ability." If He wanted to completely destroy you, or in anything He intended, glorified and exalted is He, from you, it would certainly happen. And when it was that whoever established his ability in the place of exaltation by His creation and what He has placed in it from the creations is more deserving of the ability over what is less than that, He indicated this by His saying: "In the earth." And when the speech was about punishment in this world before death, and no one claimed therein to reach the heavens, no caller called to mention it, unlike what has passed in Al-Ankabut. And when He negated their inability by themselves, and He has, glorified and exalted is He, from the exaltation what minds cannot comprehend, then everything is beneath Him, so He is capable of everything. He said: "And what is wrong with you," meaning at the time of gathering, how is it at the time of separation?
And when the ranks are in the utmost lowliness from His rank and the diminishment is beneath His presence, He affirmed the warning by saying: "Besides Allah," meaning the One who encompasses everything with greatness, pride, and might. And He included with His saying: "From a protector," meaning he would be taking care of something from your affairs independently, "and no supporter" who could repel from you something that He, glorified and exalted is He, intends for you.
