And when he clarified the ignorance of man in specific situations of despair when touched by evil, and security when tasting blessings after hardship, he clarified his state in blessings absolutely and his supplication when faced with evil, even if he is despondent. This is a reiteration of the fluctuation of his conditions and the inconsistency of his words and actions, directing that towards various aspects so that it may be a call for him to not be disdainful of returning from disbelief to faith, and removing from him the fear of doubts by this and the relation to lightness and lack of stability. He said, expressing with the tool of affirmation, indicating the predominance of His blessings, glorified and exalted is He, in this world over His retribution, and indicating the state of man when touched by blessings from a perspective he expects after clarifying his state when touched by it suddenly without expectation, confirming the clarification of his ignorance where he made the circumstance of blessings a circumstance for turning away without fear from the one who took it away after his recent experience with hardship: 'And when We bestow upon man' from what is ours of greatness and kindness 'he turns away' meaning he deviated from the straight path towards us throughout the duration of the blessing - as the circumstance implies. He did not restrict that blessing with gratitude after he saw from our lawful provisions, affirming that that blessing is pure good, apparent and hidden, so he continues it. And perhaps it is a trial and test. 'And he turns away' meaning he distances himself greatly, placing a great veil between us and him while he has leaned 'beside it' meaning on his side, a metaphor for his arrogance and pride and his self-admiration and vanity, and depicting him as one who has been addressed and then turned away from you and twisted, and he distanced himself in his misguidance and error.

And when the state of man at the sudden touch of evil preceded, he clarified his state when touched by it (p-222) while he expects it. He said, expressing in the aspect of evil with the tool of affirmation contrary to the usual manner of the Qur'an in most cases, to indicate that due to the increase of his ignorance to the limit, arrogance is necessary even if he expects evil and his state remains the state of the secure until it mixes with him, and then his bonds dissolve and his saying diminishes: 'And when evil touches him' meaning this type, whether little or much, is for our retribution against him. The verse is from the intertwining: he mentioned the blessing first as a proof of retribution secondly, and he mentioned the evil secondly as a proof of good first, and it pleased him to teach etiquette in relation to the blessing without the evil to him even if all is from Him.

And when the glorification of the breadth indicates the greatness of the length, he expressed it in a way that indicates continuity and permanence: ﴿So, he who has a supplication﴾ meaning in his unveiling. And perhaps it is an inner blessing while he is unaware and does not call upon [Allah] except at the time of affliction. It was appropriate for him to begin in supplication at the time of expectation, even before it, to become acquainted with Allah, glorified and exalted is He, in times of ease so that he may recognize Him in times of hardship. This is a noble character that only individuals whom Allah has favored with His kindness know. Thus, his neglect of it indicates the absence of his awareness of the evil of what has passed, and the lightness of his mind regarding what is to come, and his surprise at the necessity of supplication at the time of affliction due to his lack of patience, the fading of his resolve, and his little shyness. ﴿Broad﴾ meaning very extensive in breadth. As for its length, do not ask about it. This is a metaphor for the ultimate in abundance.
