Commentary
And when he mentioned some of the signs of the heavens for their nobility, and because some of them were worshipped, and from the effects of divinity, he mentioned their indication of His oneness, which necessitates the invalidation of their worship. He followed it with some of the signs of the earth, contrary to what is in Surah Yasin, for the context there is about resurrection, and the signs of the earth are more indicative. He said: ﴿And among His signs﴾, meaning those that indicate His great status and the exaltation of His authority ﴿is that you see the earth﴾, meaning some of it with the sense of sight and some of it with the eye of insight, in comparison to what it has seen, because everything is equal in relation to the ability to a certain extent.
And when the context was for oneness, he expressed it in a way that is closer to the state of the worshipper, contrary to what was mentioned in the pilgrimage, and he said: ﴿Humbled﴾, meaning dry, with no vegetation in it, so it is in the form of the humble one who has no means of protection because there is no hindrance to walking in it due to its being calm after covering its face, unlike if it were shaking, elevated, and adorned with vegetation. And when the rain is sent down, it is one of the greatest evidences of the greatness of the One, he directed the saying to the manifestation of greatness and said: ﴿So when We send down﴾, with what we have of complete ability and greatness ﴿water upon it﴾ from the clouds or we bring it to it from the high places, and we brought with it from the clay what is suitable for vegetation, even if it were a marsh like the land of Egypt ﴿it trembles﴾, meaning it moved with a great, rapid motion, as if someone were dealing with that himself ﴿and swells﴾, meaning it cracked, so its soil rose, and the vegetation came out from it, rising in the air, covering its face, and its roots branched out, and its stalks thickened, so it prevented its passage as it was before in ease. And it became with its beautiful attire like one who is proud in rich garments after being naked and humble in tattered clothes and a wretched state. Likewise, the hearts, when they humble themselves due to their awareness of the sins that have afflicted them, the truth, glorified and exalted is He, approaches them and purifies them with the waters of knowledge, so the blessings of remorse appeared in them, and He forgave their owners for what they fell short in sincerity, and they shone with the adornments of obedience and flourished with the garments of nearness, and they were purified by various manifestations.
And when this is a witnessed proof of the ability to bring the nonexistent into existence and to restore the broken and worn out, His saying must be confirmed for the sake of what they are in denial of, turning the saying from the manifestation of greatness to what alerts to the ability for resurrection, and it must be: ﴿Indeed, the One who gives it life﴾, with what He brought forth from its vegetation that was in decay and destruction and became soil ﴿is surely the One who gives life to the dead﴾, as He did with the vegetation without any difference. And when they were with their acknowledgment of the completeness of His ability, as if they were denying His ability due to their denial of resurrection, He said, explaining and confirming: ﴿Indeed, He is capable of all things﴾, because the possible things are equal in footing in relation to ability, so the capable one, with complete ability over one of them, is capable over another.
