Commentary
And when they were in this matter between obedience and disobedience, and the prevention of evils is prioritized, his saying caused this by expressing with a tool of doubt to alert them that their arrogance after the establishment of these proofs should not be imagined. The diversion of the saying to the unseen is a belittlement of them and a distancing regarding the possibility of that occurring from them. "So if they are arrogant" means if they exhibit arrogance about following you in what you commanded them regarding the oneness of Allah, so they did not affirm Allah's oneness and did not glorify Him, glorified and exalted is He, from having a partner. "Those who are near" and he indicated the place of honor, expressing with the description of goodness as a good tidings for him and a warning for them. "Your Lord" specifically, not near them, because they are close to Him in the degree of pleasure and honor, and because they are among what humanity is engulfed in, and because the disbelievers have no ability to reach them in any way. "They glorify Him" means they enact the glorification from deficiencies and distance themselves from partnership due to His supreme exaltation and greater might, not for any other reason, sincerely in their worship, and they do not exhibit arrogance.
And when the state of the disbelievers in sincerity differs in intensity and ease, he pointed to the ugliness of that from them by generalizing its characteristics upon them, blessings and peace be upon him, with sincerity in both states of affirmation, which is the state of expansion in general, and erasure, which is the state of contraction. Likewise, they renew this glorification, continuing in it at all times. He said: "By night and day" meaning throughout the passage of the two periods and the return of the two new ones, they do not slacken. And when it was in the context of the opportunity for their arrogance necessitating their denial, he emphasized with conjunction and pronoun, saying, indicating that this is their habit which they do not cease from: "And they" meaning while they are in this continuity. "Do not tire" means they hardly have any slackening or weariness at any time. So He is free from the worship of these and from the worship of any worshiper, and the greater share is for whoever is near Him. As for Him, glorified and exalted is He, He is not increased by anything nor decreased by anything. So leave these to their arrogance and their affair, and they will know who is the loser. The verse is from the intertwining: He mentioned arrogance first as evidence for its deletion second, and glorification second as evidence for its deletion first. The secret of that is that he mentioned the ugliest of what is for his enemies and the best of what is for his allies.
