Commentary
And when that was the case, his saying caused a shift in his address to them, indicating the intensity of anger and signaling that when they reached the condition he mentioned, they were rendered speechless. They could not articulate with their tongues, nor gesture with their heads or fingers: "So if they are patient," meaning: on what they have been subjected to, their patience will not benefit them. This is the meaning of his saying: "the Fire is a dwelling place for them." That is, a place of residence for them. "And if they seek to appease," meaning: they request satisfaction by removing the blame, which is being held accountable for their sin. "Then they are not among those who will be appeased," meaning: those who are accepted, from whom the blame is removed, so that He may pardon them and leave their punishment.
