Commentary
And when this is in the reward, it is the greatest mockery of them. Thus, it contains the greatest consolation for those who argued with him and were arrogant towards him, which is caused by it. His saying: "So be patient" [means]: await this victory. Then he justified it by saying, confirming for the sake of their denial of the promise: "Indeed, the promise of Allah" meaning: the one that encompasses the attributes of perfection, "is true" meaning: in your victory in both abodes, so it must occur. In it, there is the greatest consolation [for you]. Therefore, he caused it to relate to what will come in the objection, indicating that he will not be asked about what He does. His saying, exalted is He: "So if We show you" and he confirmed it with 'what' and the 'noon.' The manifestation of greatness is for their denial of His victory over them and for their resurrection: "some of what We promise them" meaning: with what we have of greatness that will please you concerning them, whether it be punishment or recompense before your passing. That is to Us, and it is easy for Us.
And when he mentioned the conditional action and omitted its response for the knowledge of it, he added to it his saying: "or We take you" [meaning]: before you see that in them. And this conjunction is answered by his saying: "So to Us" meaning: with what we have of greatness, "they will be returned" meaning: in the world, and We will show you after your passing who supported your companions against them with what will please you in your Barzakh. Indeed, there is no permanence for their falsehood, and in the Hereafter, We will show you in them more than what you hope for in the victory that includes the confirmation of you and their denial, and your honor and their humiliation. The verse contains a connection: it mentioned death a second time as evidence for its omission the first time, and the vision first as evidence for its omission the second time.
