Commentary
And when the answer to the question about the astonishment at this misguidance was complete, he returned to addressing the misguidance and said, magnifying what he mentioned of their punishments with the tool of distance and the plural 'mim' explicitly for the reprimanding of each one of them: ﴿That is﴾ meaning: the great reward of high ranks, [the difficult] massive mounts of great processions ﴿for what you used to﴾ meaning: always ﴿rejoice﴾ meaning: you exaggerate in joy and immerse yourselves in it, and you become weak in bearing it due to turning away from the consequences. And when the earth is a prison, [it is] in reality (p-118) a house of sorrows, it is good that he said: ﴿in the earth﴾ meaning: you acted in it contrary to what I established for it, and this was further enhanced by his saying: ﴿without right﴾ which indicated that joy should only be if it is accompanied by the completeness of this truth, which is the permanence of what one is joyful about, and that can only be in Paradise ﴿and because of what﴾ meaning: and due to what ﴿you used to indulge in merriment﴾ meaning: you exaggerate in joy with arrogance and boastfulness and the activity that leads to pride and haughtiness and the lightness of not bearing joy.
