Commentary

﴿He﴾ means: alone ﴿The Ever-Living﴾ and everything besides Him has no life, because it has nothing from itself except non-existence. This certainly leads to His saying: ﴿There is no deity except Him﴾. Consequently, His saying: ﴿So call upon Him﴾ means: alone with words and actions in the manner of worship. This is the meaning of ﴿Sincere to Him in religion﴾, meaning: free from all manifest or hidden polytheism.

And when He commanded to limit aspirations to Him, He justified it by His saying: ﴿All praise﴾, meaning: encompassing the attributes of perfection. [And He indicated the place of the implicit to show that He has exalted attributes that cannot be confined]: ﴿To Allah﴾, meaning: the One named by this name that encompasses all meanings of the most beautiful names of His essence. And since this existence is as it is in terms of order and wondrous formation, it indicates with definitive evidence to praise. He said, describing what is like the cause for knowledge of the content of the report: ﴿Lord of the worlds﴾, meaning: the One who raised them with this upbringing, for it cannot be other than that. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them, it is said: 'Whoever says (There is no deity except Allah) let him say after it (All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds).'
