Commentary
And when the outcome of what has passed from this story, which is sweeter than drink and more precious than the organized jewels around the necks of young maidens, is that He, glorified and exalted is He, supported the messengers against their nations when they intended to seize them, so they did not reach them, then Allah destroyed them in this world. As for the Hereafter, He punished them with the severest punishment. Likewise, He supported Moses, peace be upon him, and the believer who defended him. The support of the people of Allah is often hidden, as they are tested, then the outcome will be theirs. Most of the rigid ones, who are the majority of people, think that there is no support for them. Allah, the Exalted, said, directing the words to the manifestation of greatness, because support is derived from what has passed, confirming a warning for the ignorant about what is hidden from them: "Indeed, we" meaning: by what we have of greatness, "will surely support our messengers" meaning: against those who oppose them, "and those who believe" meaning: those who are characterized by this description, even if they are in the lowest rank.
And when life is pleasing and delightful with support and becomes troubled by its opposite, He mentioned it for this reason and so that it would not be imagined that if it were to fall, their support would be of a low rank. He said: "In the worldly life" by obligating them to the path of guidance that guarantees every success and with evidence and victory. And if they are defeated at times, the outcome will be for them, even if it is by appointing, glorified is He, against their enemies someone who will take retribution from them, even if after a while. The least of that is that their enemies will not be able to achieve everything they want from them. "And on the Day the witnesses rise" meaning: in the Hereafter from the angels, the prophets, and all the close ones, a gathering of witnesses like the noble and the nobles, indicating that their testimony is profound in its domain, due to their complete presence. And to this refers the reminder of the action and the expression with the plural of the few. However, the elite are few, even though they, in relation to the people of the standing, are like a white hair in the skin of a black bull. And He expressed that as an indication of the manifestation of just judgment with the attributes of might for fairness, so He elevates His allies in every regard and humiliates their enemies with every humiliation.
