Commentary
And when it became evident that no one can benefit another in anything, it was reported that when they saw their distance from Allah and that they are not worthy of His supplication, glorified and exalted is He, they attached their hopes to the intercession of the angels. He informed about this from them by saying: "And those in the Fire said to the keepers of Hell..." meaning: all together, the followers and the followed. He placed the pronoun in the saying: "Hell" to indicate that their asking of the people of the level that is characterized by the grimness of its inhabitants shows that they, due to the evil of what they are in, do not comprehend. They do not place anything in its proper place as they did in this world: "Call upon your Lord..." meaning: the One who has done good to you by the fact that you do not find any pain from the Fire. "Relieve us for a day..." meaning: in its measure, "from the punishment..." meaning: some of it.
