Commentary
And when it became apparent to this believer, may Allah be pleased with him, that Pharaoh was humiliated by his words, and he could not confront him, he rose to a clearer manner than the first approach. He informed us, glorified and exalted is He, by saying, using the past tense in his description because he was in a position of admonition that should be from the least of those characterized by faith. This was after he mentioned his lineage in the description because he was in a position of striving and defending the Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, and our Prophet, the best of prayers and peace, who is not preceded by anyone except one firmly rooted in the religion: "And the one who believed said"; meaning after Pharaoh's statement, this speech which is colder than ice, which indicated his ignorance, inability, and humiliation. "O my people"; and he confirmed what he saw among them of denying his matter and feared from them the accusation against him, so he said: "Indeed, I fear for you"; meaning from the stubbornness regarding the matter of Musa, blessings and peace be upon him. And when the least that one fears is enough for the wise, and Allah's power, glorified is He, over all of them is equal without distinction, their destruction would be like the destruction of a single soul. He specified and said: "Like the Day of the Confederates"; although his specification is more magnificent and stronger in intimidation and more horrifying to indicate the power of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, and that He is capable of destroying them in the least amount of time.
