And when the Most High informed about His action with those who followed Musa, peace be upon him, He informed about His action with him by what He knew of his inability. He said: ﴿And Pharaoh said﴾, meaning the greatest of the disbelievers at that time to the leaders of his followers when he knew that he was unable to kill him. He was filled with what he saw from him of fear and terror, defending himself against what was said that he did not leave Musa, peace be upon him, out of disdain for him except due to his inability to do so. He implied that his gods were the ones who would protect him from him, and that if it were not for that, he would have killed him: ﴿Leave me﴾, meaning let me be (p-51) in whatever state it may be ﴿I will kill Musa﴾. He increased in misleading the fools and calling upon himself in front of the wise with the disgraceful words: ﴿And let him call upon his Lord﴾, meaning the one whom he calls and claims to be good to him by what appears from him of these miracles. Then he justified that by saying, confirming that the matter is very difficult because there were among them those who weakened his matter by saying that what he is in does not affect anything at all, drawing closer to Pharaoh, and showing steadfastness in following him: ﴿Indeed, I fear﴾, meaning if he leaves him ﴿that he will change your religion﴾, meaning that which you are upon in relation to the action of nature by what he calls you to of the worship of his god.
And when he incited them with this speech to support him against Musa, peace be upon him, he increased in that by saying: ﴿Or that he will cause corruption﴾, meaning because of him - according to the reading of the majority with the opening of the present tense letter ﴿in the land﴾, meaning all of it ﴿corruption﴾. And the Madinians, Basrians, and Hafs read with a dhamma, attributing it to the pronoun of Musa, peace be upon him, and with the corruption being in the accusative, meaning with the corruption of livelihoods. For if a strong one overcomes us against anyone other than us, he will spill blood, take captives, and plunder wealth, and the world will be corrupted along with the corruption of religion. The accursed one named righteousness - due to its opposition to his corrupt way - corruption, as is (p-52) the case with every corrupter against the reformers. And the Kufans and Ya'qub read 'Or that' meaning that he fears the occurrence of one of the two matters: the change or the appearance of what he has called corruption. And if the change does not occur immediately, then weakness will occur because of it.
