And when that was astonishing because the clear signs prevent disbelief, it was a determination for those who deny the sending of messengers in this manner: We have indeed sent them like that. And Musa, may peace be upon him, was among the messengers with signs, which he added for consolation and a warning for those who turned away. And a reference for those who understood his saying: 'And certainly' and he directed the saying to the manifestation of greatness, as in the verses that he displayed in the presence of this (p-48) great king, from the horror and greatness that made his soul diminish and his ambition become insignificant before him, and his perception became obscured. So he said: 'We have sent' meaning according to what we have of greatness, 'Musa with Our signs' meaning the signs indicating Our majesty, 'and a mighty authority' meaning a truly overwhelming command, of which they had no ability to resist anything of it. 'Clear' meaning evident in itself, calling to everyone who can be informed about it that it is very apparent. And that matter was what prevented Fir'aun from reaching his harm despite his power and authority.
