Commentary

And when he made clear that there is no veil from houses, or mountains, or trees, or hills, or anything else from all that has shadows, he alerted to it in his saying, reiterating the mention of the day because it is more terrifying for him: ﴿The Day they will be﴾ that is, with their outward appearances and their inner selves ﴿exposed﴾ that is, they have emerged with no covering at all.

And when it was known to them that there is no covering for him that is known, he led them to what they are accustomed to, and he expressed it with a phrase that encompasses that, saying, resuming in response to whoever thought that something might be hidden from the covering, magnifying the matter by revealing the greatest name: ﴿Nothing is hidden from Allah﴾ that is, the One who encompasses knowledge and power ﴿of them﴾ that is, of their selves and their meanings, whether they are exposed or concealed on this day and on others.

And when it was customary that the great king, when he sends his army to those who have long rebelled against him and opposed him, and they are victorious over them and bring them to him, he calls out to them with a voice while they stand before him, having been silenced by his awe and humbled by his greatness (p-28) with a tongue that he speaks or the tongue of his state with that which makes them weep and reproaches them and makes them regret what has passed of their disobedience. He says: ﴿To whom belongs the dominion today﴾ that is, O those who used to act like one who thinks that no one can overpower him, and they will respond with the tongue of their state or speech as some of those who said:

The ages have long been silent about them ∗∗∗ They have made them weep blood when they spoke.

﴿To Allah﴾ that is, the One who possesses all attributes of perfection, then he indicated that with his saying: ﴿The One﴾ that is, the One who cannot have a second in partnership or division or otherwise ﴿The Subduer﴾ that is, the One who subdues whom He wills, His description of that is always repeated eternally due to what has been established of His absolute richness by His true oneness.
