Commentary

'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'

Surah Ghafir, also called Surah Al-Mu'min and Al-Tawil.

Its purpose is to provide evidence regarding the last one that preceded it from the classification of people in the Hereafter into two categories. It aims to fulfill all that each deserves in a manner of justice. The one who does this has complete might and comprehensive knowledge. He has clarified what angers Him and what pleases Him to the utmost clarity in a way that is wise. So whoever does not submit his entire affair to Him and argues about His signs that indicate the Resurrection or others with his words or actions, then He will disgrace him, punish him, and bring him to ruin. This is indicated by its name Ghafir, for only the one of complete might can forgive whom He wills. And only the one of profound knowledge can know all sins to be called a forgiver of them.

Similarly, in all the attributes mentioned in the verse regarding reward and punishment, and likewise in Al-Tawil, only the one who is like that can have absolute authority. For whoever is deficient in might is subject to being prevented from some of the expansions by a barrier, and that will only be due to a deficiency in knowledge. Likewise, the indication in its naming as Al-Mu'min, for his story points to this purpose, especially the matter of the Resurrection, which is the main objective and the greatest focus for knowing the One worshiped, the 'In the name of Allah' the Greatest King, who gives each of His servants what they deserve. No one can contradict anything of that, nor oppose the Most Gracious, who encompasses them with His mercy in this world through creation, provision, and clarity, with no concealment with Him. The Most Merciful, who specifically bestows His mercy upon whom He wills from His servants, making him wise, and in that land and the dominion of the heavens, is great.

* *﴿Ham﴾ This is the wisdom of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, which the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the Praiseworthy, and the Glorious has specifically granted him, from what He has of the attribute of perfection.
