Commentary
And when He, the Exalted, presented the error in the manner of that which is for the doer; repelling him from this repulsion; it was appropriate for him to mention what is not for him of that; since controlling oneself after sending it is severe; for perhaps it made easy the killing of one whose Islam is confirmed; and it drew to him enmity; and the strength of doubts in him was intensified by a strong disposition; and by my life, the burden of restraint after sending is harder than the burden of advancing; and only one who has experienced the souls at the time of overseeing victory knows this; and the pleasure of revenge along with strength; and ability; so he said: "And whoever kills a believer"; and perhaps he indicated by the present tense to the continuity of determination on that; for the sake of faith; and it can only be disbelief; and he left the words open to further repulsion from killing a Muslim; "intentionally"; meaning: as for the error, its ruling has already been established regarding the believer; and others; "then his recompense"; meaning: for that; "is Hell"; meaning: it will receive him in a very unpleasant state; just as it scowled at the killed one; "abiding therein"; meaning: remaining until there is no end to it; "and Allah is angry"; meaning: the Most High King who has no equal; with that; "against him and curses him"; meaning: and distances him from His mercy; "and has prepared for him a great punishment"; meaning: the knowledge of which your minds cannot reach; and if the saying is generalized in this verse, that which specifies it is what is before it; and what is after it; from His saying, the Exalted: "and He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills" [An-Nisa: 48]; not the verse of 'Al-Furqan'; for it is Meccan; and this is Medinan.
