Commentary
And when it was the nature of the Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, to keep track of those who obeyed him and those who disobeyed him, so that this may reach the One who sent him; and He, glorified and exalted is He, had indicated to him to turn away from that, due to his lack of knowledge about it, even if he strived; he began to inform him of some of what they conceal. He said, recounting some of their words, clarifying their hypocrisy in it and their deceit: "And they say"; meaning: if you command them with something from our matter while they are in your presence; "obedience"; meaning: every obedience from us to you is always; we are steadfast upon that; and the indefinite article is for magnification by generalization. "So when they go out"; meaning: they leave; "from your presence, a group plots"; they are in extreme rebellion; "among them"; meaning: they have planned and fabricated to a great extent; and the writing, with turning and facing, is like the action of one who manages affairs and perfects them at night; "other than what you say"; meaning: the renewal of their saying to you at every moment, from the obedience they have shown, or other than your words which you conveyed to them. Abu Amr and Hamzah merged the ت after its being made silent, due to the heaviness of the consecutive movements in الطاء, due to the proximity of the two points of articulation; and الطاء increases with the complete closure; so it is good to merge the lesser into the greater; and the others showed; and the merging is more suitable for their condition; and the revealing is more suitable for what has been clarified of their conditions.
And when it was the habit of man to affirm the matters he wishes to immortalize by writing, he proceeded with that; so he said: "And Allah"; meaning: while the king who possesses the attributes of perfection; "writes what they plot"; meaning: they renew their plotting every time they do it; and He is free from needing it; but that is to present it to them on the day when the witnesses arise and establish the proof against them for what has been customary among them; or He may inspire you with it and expose them by His writing and your recitation throughout time; so they should not think that their plotting will avail them anything.
And when his sufficiency, blessings and peace be upon him, from that matter was established, he said: "So turn away from them"; meaning: for they will not harm anyone except themselves; "and rely"; meaning: in their affair and others; "upon Allah"; meaning: the One from whom nothing escapes His will; "and sufficient is Allah"; meaning: the All-Encompassing in knowledge and power; "as a Trustee"; so you will see how the outcome will be in your matter and their matter.
