Commentary
And when He negated their excuses for their failure to obey Him; until He concluded with the testimony of His message; He said - encouraging; warning; in a general manner that calms his heart; and alleviates the continuity of their disobedience to Him; indicating his infallibility in all his movements; and stillness -: ﴿Whoever obeys the Messenger﴾; meaning: as is required by his state; ﴿has certainly obeyed Allah﴾; the Greatest King who has no equal; for He is the one calling to Him; and He does not speak from desire; rather, He is informed of what is revealed to Him; ﴿And whoever turns away﴾; meaning: from His obedience; and since the implication is: 'Then he has certainly disobeyed Allah; and Allah - glorified and exalted is He - is All-Knowing of him; and Able over him; so if He willed, He would have turned him back; and if He wished, He would have destroyed him for his tyranny; so leave him and that' -; He expressed all of this with His saying: ﴿We did not send you﴾; meaning: with Our greatness; ﴿as a guardian over them﴾; rather, We sent you as a caller.
