Commentary

And when he informed about their need for the supporters; and their complaint against the disbelievers; he began to inform about the two groups; and he said - emphasizing the encouragement for jihad -: ﴿Those who have believed﴾; meaning: they have affirmed in their claim of faith; ﴿they fight﴾; meaning: in confirmation of their claims; without any delay at all; ﴿in the way of Allah﴾; meaning: the One who encompasses all attributes of perfection; seeking His face by protecting the oppressed and others; as for whoever does not affirm his claim with this, then he has not believed; ﴿And those who disbelieve fight﴾; meaning: likewise ﴿in the way of the tyrant﴾; so they have no ally; nor helper.

And when the tyrant is the devil; or whoever the devil has adorned; and every one who disobeys Allah is from him; and from those whom he has misled; is insignificant; this led to his saying: ﴿So fight the allies of the devil﴾; then he justified the boldness against them by saying: ﴿Indeed, the plot of the devil﴾; meaning: which is the head of the disobedient; ﴿was﴾; by nature and disposition; ﴿weak﴾.
