Commentary
And when he prohibited that giving to the foolish; whether they were orphans or others; he clarified that it is not always the case; but as long as foolishness exists; there is a need to define who should be given; and who should be prevented; and how it should be done at the time of giving. And since foolishness is an internal matter that can only be known through behavior; especially in financial matters; he began - glorified and exalted is He - by teaching what they can use to know it; and he said - explicitly regarding the orphans; out of concern for their matter -: ﴿And test the orphans﴾; meaning: examine them in matters of guidance in religion; and finances; during their period of adolescence; and make that your practice; ﴿Until when they reach marriage﴾; meaning: at the time of need for it; by way of maturity; or age; ﴿If you perceive﴾; meaning: if you know with certainty that you are in great certainty; as if you see it in a way that you love; and your souls are pleased with it; ﴿from them﴾; meaning: upon their reaching; ﴿maturity﴾; meaning: through that behavior; and he used the indefinite form because the existence of complete maturity in anyone is rare; ﴿Then give them their properties﴾; meaning: to remove the need for the stone; out of fear of wastefulness; and he added it to them after initially attributing it to the givers; indicating that it is only deserved by one who is good at managing it.
And when man is inclined to deficiencies; among them is greed and lack of satisfaction; especially if he mingles; particularly if he has received some permission; he admonished him - glorified and exalted is He - by saying: ﴿And do not consume it﴾; meaning: due to your entitlement to that; by working in it ﴿excessively﴾; meaning: being extravagant; by deviating from the intended purpose in management; and placing something in a place other than its rightful place; and neglecting justice; and compassion; ﴿And hasten﴾; meaning: be proactive; ﴿that they grow﴾; meaning: so that they take it from you when they grow up; and you miss out on benefiting from it; and as if he connected with the conjunction indicating the establishment of the description; and its completeness; indicating that one is not held accountable for what he is incapable of; as man is inclined to deficiency; which is treated in actions as whispering is treated in words; "And no one will challenge the religion except that it will overpower him." And when the prohibition of consuming everything indicated that they have a valid reason for eating in general; he clarified it in his saying: ﴿And whoever is﴾; meaning: among you; O guardians; ﴿wealthy, let him abstain﴾; meaning: seek chastity; and find it; and show it; by abstaining from eating from it altogether; so he may abstain from it by what Allah has provided him from His sustenance; ﴿And whoever is poor﴾; and he is responsible for the orphan's wealth for its reform; and since it is feared that his abstaining from eating from it may lead to negligence in it; by being preoccupied with what concerns him; he expressed the words in the imperative form; and he said - expressing eating; as it is the main objective -: ﴿Then let him eat in a good manner﴾; meaning: according to the wage of his effort.
And when that was, perhaps it made the safety understood towards guidance; in every regard; he commanded caution - as in Al-Tabarani's Al-Awsat; from Anas: "Beware of people with ill suspicion" - he said: ﴿So when you give them﴾; meaning: the orphans; ﴿their wealth﴾; meaning: that which was under your hands; due to their inability to preserve it; ﴿then bear witness against them﴾ (p-199); meaning: as a precaution; because circumstances change; and guidance varies; for bearing witness is more decisive against evil; and more beneficial in every matter; and the command to bear witness is a deterrent for the guardian from betrayal; because whoever knows that he will not be accepted in disputes except with evidence; he will be extremely chaste; and will take utmost precautions.
And when wealth is a source of inclination for souls; and love for something blinds and deafens; he concluded the verse with his saying: ﴿And sufficient is Allah﴾; meaning: the One who has profound wisdom; and remarkable power; and greatness that has no equal; and the 'ba' in this is an affirmation; because what it is associated with is the true doer; not metaphorically; just as when we are commanded to act; for example; ﴿As a sufficient account﴾; meaning: one who accounts; profound in reckoning; for it is more effective; as a warning to them; and to the orphans; against betrayal; transgression; and extending the eye towards the rights of others.
