And when he mentioned the intimidation with the punishment of the disbelievers, he followed it with the encouragement with the reward of the believers. He said: "And those who believed"; meaning: they affirmed their faith; "and did righteous deeds"; clarifying their sincerity in it; "We will admit them"; meaning: with a promise that there is no breaking of it. And perhaps the indication of ease for them with the letter 's' instead of 'will' - as in the case of the disbelievers - suggests that they are the shortest of nations in duration; or that they are the shortest in lifespan; to relieve them from the abode of hardship to the place of purity; and that they will enter Paradise before all the saved groups from the people of the standing. "Gardens"; meaning: orchards; and he described them with what maintains their joy and enhances their freshness and blooming. He said: "Rivers flow beneath them"; meaning: indeed, their land is in the utmost of irrigation; every spot of it is suitable for a river to flow from it.

And when he mentioned their permanence; and what sustains them, he followed it with what the souls desire of continuous residence therein. He said: "They will remain therein forever" [An-Nisa: 122]. And when he described the beauty of the abode, he mentioned the beauty of the neighbor. He said: "They will have therein spouses"; and the consistent description of the gathering of the few for those who understand the 'alif' and 'ta' was shifted here to the singular to convey that they are in such harmony in purity like a single entity. Thus it was said: "Pure"; meaning: her purity is repeated; there is never a time when it is otherwise. And when the gardens in this world do not become beautiful except with the sun's presence upon them; and the sun removes the shade and moves to another place; and perhaps its heat is bothersome; He secured them from that in it by saying: "And We will admit them"; meaning: in it; "a shade"; meaning: immense; and He emphasized it by saying: "a lasting shade"; meaning: continuous; there are no gaps in it; it is expansive with no constriction in it always; the sun will never strike it one day; nor will there be heat in it; nor cold; rather, it is in the utmost of moderation.
