Commentary
And when the warning of him regarding the Last Day was completed; and what he mentioned of manifesting justice; and his thoroughness in it; it was a reason for the question about the state of those who are rebuked in these verses at that time; so he said: ﴿So how﴾; meaning: what will their state be; when they have carried burdens like mountains; of equal deeds; ﴿When we come﴾; upon our greatness; ﴿from every nation with a witness﴾; meaning: who will testify against them; ﴿and we come with you﴾; and you are the noblest of our creation; ﴿against these﴾; meaning: those to whom we sent you; and we made you a witness against them; ﴿a witness﴾; and in the interpretation from Al-Bukhari; from Abdullah - may Allah be pleased with him - he said: "The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said to me: 'Recite to me.' I said: 'Should I recite to you while it has been revealed to you?' He said: 'I love to hear it from others.' So I recited to him Surah 'An-Nisa' until I reached: ﴿So how when we come from every nation with a witness and we come with you against these as a witness﴾; he said: 'Stop.' And when I looked at him, his eyes were shedding tears.
