33For everyone We have made heirs in what the parents and the nearest of kin have left. As for those with whom you have made a pledge, give them their shares. Surely, Allah is Witness over everything.

Commentary

And he added to that what is among the reasons; he said: ﴿And for everyone﴾; meaning: from the two tribes; whether they are small or large; ﴿We have made﴾; by Our greatness which is unmatched; ﴿guardians﴾; meaning: We have decreed that they are the guardians; meaning: the supporters; and the relatives; for the sake of inheritance; they are those who are closest to the wealth; and they inherit it; whether they are a specific group; and they are the heirs; or a general group; and they are the Muslims.

And when the concern for the inheritance of the minors was greater, he said: ﴿Of what﴾; meaning: for what; ﴿the parents﴾ left behind; meaning: for you; then he followed that with what includes the rights of the root and the branch; he said: ﴿And the closest﴾; meaning: to you; then he added to that his saying: ﴿And those﴾; meaning: and what those left behind; ﴿whose oaths you have contracted﴾; meaning: from what was left by those whom you are related to by lineage; or by reason; by oath; or by loyalty; or by marriage; and he mentioned the oath because the covenant is made with a handshake; then he caused to follow that his saying: ﴿Then give them﴾; meaning: the guardians; even if they are minors; or females; according to what I have explained to you in the previous verse of inheritance; and leave aside everything that contradicts that; for it has been abrogated by it; ﴿Their share﴾; meaning: that which We have prescribed for them from the inheritance; in full; not diminished; and do not think that others are more deserving than them; or equal to them; then he warned against opposition; and confirmed the matter; with a promise and a warning; by his saying: ﴿Indeed, Allah﴾; meaning: the One who encompasses the attributes of perfection; ﴿is Witness over all things﴾; meaning: He knows the guardian from others; and the traitor from others; even if he strives to conceal it; for nothing is hidden from Him; for nothing escapes Him; and nothing is hidden from Him; so the meaning is: 'Indeed, we have not done anything other than what you intended by giving the wealth to those who protect the property; and defend the possession; while you were not placing it in its rightful places; due to your absence from the realities of matters; and its absence from you; for we have not taken anything from it for others than the guardians - meaning: the supporters - either by kinship; or by contract of loyalty; or by marriage; so the result is that it is for whoever protects by action; or by the close or distant strength; and as for the preference in the heirs, it is a matter we have reserved knowledge of its rightful recipients; and in Al-Bukhari, in the tafsir, from Ibn Abbas: 'guardians': heirs; 'and those whose oaths you have contracted': (p-269) when the emigrants arrived in Medina, the emigrant inherits from the Ansar; without their relatives; due to the brotherhood that the Prophet ﷺ established between them; so when it was revealed: ﴿And for everyone We have made guardians﴾; it abrogated it; then he said: 'and those whose oaths you have contracted'; from support; and assistance; and advice; and the inheritance has gone; and he bequeaths to him.
