Commentary
And when he indicated in this verse to the pure Messenger; the rightly guided Prophet; molded upon this most upright and clear intellect; and the most complete and fulfilling Book; which follows this highest law; the expression of which is sufficient; brief in its rulings of the first and the last; whose context and arrangement of its verses are clear in evidence; and the appearance of proofs; he began to categorize the warners; so He said (exalted is He): ﴿So as for those who believed in Allah﴾; meaning: it has become clear that there is no matter for anyone with Him in His essence; and His attributes; and His actions; and His rulings; and His names; by what the conclusive proof has indicated; ﴿and they hold fast to Him﴾; meaning: they made Him a support for them in the obligations which are among the greatest objectives of this surah; it connects them; and restrains them from going astray after guidance; and returning from insight to blindness; because the support is what binds the container so that nothing comes out of what is in it; and the form of the verbal noun indicates striving in that; because the soul is inclined to negligence; which produces misguidance; ﴿So He will admit them﴾; meaning: with a promise that there is no contradiction in it; and perhaps the 'seen' was mentioned to indicate - with the fulfillment of the promise - the encouragement for perseverance; and continuity in action; pointing to the honor of what is with Him - glorified and exalted is He -; ﴿into a mercy from Him﴾; meaning: a great reward; it is by His mercy for them; not by anything they deserved; and He referred to the good; according to what their actions necessitate; if they had it; by His saying: ﴿and a favor﴾; meaning: great; they know that it is an increase; for which they have no cause; ﴿and He guides them﴾; meaning: in this world; and the Hereafter; ﴿to a straight path﴾; meaning: a great path; very clear; ﴿that is straight﴾; meaning: He is the guide of His people; as if he is seeking to correct himself; so He will certainly lead them; to His promise that preserves them in their secret and public; revealing the lights of the realm of holiness in their souls; and granting them success in following what it has guided them to of obligations; and others; for He has come - as you see - with 'So as for' which necessitates categorization; certainly; and He has come with one of the two mentioned categories in the verse that preceded it; and He described them as holding fast to Allah; in support; and acceptance of all His rulings; in obligations and others; whether they agree with their inclinations or oppose them; hinting at the hypocrites who allied with others; and the disbelievers who believed in some and disbelieved in some; and left the other category; which is the category of those who are disdainful; and arrogant; and He placed his position as a ruling from the rulings of the obligations that this surah opens with; which is among the greatest of its objectives without a conjunction; but with the completeness of connection; so He said - denying them the repetition of the question about women; and children; after the sufficient statement; clarifying that He has guided in all of that the most upright way -:
