Commentary
And when He clarified - glorified and exalted is He - that He established the evidence for its truth through miracles; it became as if He witnessed its reality. The most beneficial thing was to follow that by describing those who denied it within themselves; and turned others away from it; as a reprimand against the like of their condition; and as a condemnation of what they displayed of their misguidance. So He said: ﴿Indeed, those who disbelieved﴾; meaning: they concealed what they had of knowledge regarding its truth; by what was indicated by the witness of reason; and the decisive transmission; from the Jews; and others. ﴿And they turned away from the path of Allah﴾; meaning: the Most High King, of whom no one has authority with Him; by their own selves; and by misleading others with what they cast of doubts; like this; and their saying - falsely -: 'Indeed, in the Torah it is stated that the Shariah of Moses - blessings and peace be upon him - is not abrogated'; and their saying: 'Indeed, the prophets can only be from the descendants of Aaron; and David - blessings be upon them both.' ﴿They have certainly gone astray﴾; meaning: from the path that leads to their intended goal; in their envy; and preventing what is intended from its elevation; ﴿A far misguidance﴾; meaning: because the most misguided of people is the one who believes he is right; then he leads others to the like of his falsehood; so they ended up in a state where there is no hope for them to return to the beneficial path; especially if envy is added to that; because the disease of envy is the most severe of diseases.
