Commentary
And when the majority of the message of our Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, was glad tidings and warning, he said - clarifying that they are like him in that; just as they were before him in the revelation; because the purpose of sending all the messengers is to gather creation with glad tidings and warning -: ﴿messengers﴾; meaning: We made them messengers; and it is permissible that it be a substitute for "messengers" in the past; and that it be a state; while they are ﴿bringing glad tidings and warning﴾; then he explained that by saying: ﴿so that there may not be﴾; meaning: to negate that it exists; ﴿for the people﴾; meaning: the type of those in whom the power of the soul exists. And when the proof could be applied to the absolute excuse; even if it were rejected; he expressed it with the tool of elevation; so he said: ﴿against Allah is a proof﴾; meaning: a requirement of acceptance upon the King; who is endowed with all the attributes of perfection; that He does not punish His disobedient ones; and when the intention was to encompass the negation of all time that follows the sending; he dropped the preposition; so he said: ﴿after﴾; meaning: that has been negated in a way that encompasses all the time that exists after the sending of ﴿the messengers﴾; and their conveying to the people; and this is based on the fact that the obligation of knowing Him (glorified and exalted is He) is established by hearing; and as for the essence of knowledge; and contemplation; and monotheism; its path is the intellect; for knowledge is received from the intellect; and obligation is received from the law; and transmission.
And when that might have suggested that it might have been impossible for Him, glorified is He, to take a proof or otherwise before that; he said - removing that -: ﴿and Allah was﴾; meaning: the one who possesses the attributes of greatness; ﴿Almighty﴾; meaning: He overcomes everything; and nothing overcomes Him; for He is capable of what they requested; but He is not obligated to anything; because it is in the manner of obstinacy; and they are not able to overpower Him; ﴿Wise﴾; meaning: He places things in their most perfect positions; and for that reason, He arranged matters such that no one has a proof with them; and among His wisdom is that He does not respond to the obstinate.
