Commentary

And when the word of elevation in the testimony was declared that there is no good for them in one of the two abodes; and that the estimation is: "Because of their wrongdoing"; it caused his saying - indicating that the Torah was revealed in stages -: "Because of wrongdoing"; meaning: very great; deep-rooted; established; and it encompasses the details of the breach of the covenant; and what was added to it of what they made lawful after it was prohibited by the Torah; and he said - pointing to the increase of their rebuke -: "from those who have become Jews"; meaning: they were dressed in Judaism in the past; claiming that they are of the people of the Torah; and returning to the truth; and he did not imply; specifying them; as an increase in his reproach; "We prohibited for them good things that were made lawful"; meaning: the occurrence of their lawful status in the Torah; "for them"; like the fats that Allah (glorified and exalted is He) mentioned in the cattle.

And when he mentioned their wrongdoing, he mentioned some of its components; and he began with their turning away from the true religion; so he said - reiterating for emphasis -: "And their turning away from the path of Allah"; meaning: that which is clearer than it; and easier; and greater; for the greatness of what he has set for it of greatness; and wisdom; that cannot be comprehended; and "turned away"; it may be limited; so it would be "many"; a description of a missing source; and it may be transitive; so it would have an object; meaning: and turning away many people; by misleading them from the path; so they were deprived of the delights of those provisions; by what they prevented themselves and others from the sweetness of faith.
