Commentary
﴿Those﴾; meaning: the distant and detestable; ﴿They are the disbelievers﴾; meaning: those who are immersed in disbelief; ﴿Truly﴾; and disbelief has become necessary for them all; because the evidence for the prophethood of some necessitates the certainty of the prophethood of everyone from whom such evidence has occurred; and where the occurrence of the evidence is permitted without the indicated; it becomes impossible to infer anything from it; like the miracle; thus, disbelief in all becomes necessary at that time; it is established that whoever denies the prophethood of any of the prophets - blessings and peace be upon him - it becomes necessary for him to disbelieve in all the prophets; and whoever is necessitated to disbelieve in them; it becomes necessary for him to disbelieve in Allah; and all that has been brought by Him.
And when the estimation was: "So surely we have prepared - meaning: we have made ready - for them a humiliating punishment;" it was followed by - in general -: ﴿And We have prepared for the disbelievers﴾; meaning: all of them; ﴿a humiliating punishment﴾; meaning: just as they have belittled some of the messengers; and they are deserving of love; and honor; and the verse encompasses them and others; from those whose state is like their state; and giving that an explanation of the conditions of the hypocrites is the most appropriate thing; and the best of it; for the identification that they are hypocrites; in that they show something of the matter of the Prophet ﷺ; and conceal otherwise; and even if what they show is contrary to what the hypocrites show; and that they are the ones who have led astray the hypocrites; and for warning against their words; and the falsification of what they have distorted from their conditions; and in that is a reference to the beginning of this story; ﴿O you who have believed, believe in Allah and His Messenger﴾ [An-Nisa: 136]
