Commentary
And when He forbade them from the actions of the hypocrites, He began to explain their punishment with Him. He said: "Indeed, the hypocrites are in the lowest depth of the Fire"; meaning: the bottom; and the dwelling; "the lowest of the Fire"; because that conceals what is in the Fire; and it is the most hidden; and the closest to it; and the lowest of it; just as their disbelief conceals disbelief and is the lowest of it; and it is also the most vile of the layers of the Fire; just as their disbelief is the most vile of types of disbelief. And in it, there is that the position of the doer of that is in the abode of the hypocrites; for his action is like their action; and whoever resembles a people is one of them. And the layers of the Fire are called 'adrak' because they are successive; following one another downwards; just as the degrees are ascending upwards.
And when He informed that they are from this constricted place; He informed them of its permanence for them; in a very painful manner. He said: "And you will never find for them a supporter"; meaning: ever; "for them a supporter"; and He indicated by prohibiting their allegiance; and the absence of their support; to the conclusion of the first verses warning against the disbelievers: "And sufficient is Allah as a protector, and sufficient is Allah as a supporter" [An-Nisa: 45].
