Commentary
And when this was the case, it resulted in his saying: "So do not follow" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: do not take on the following of "desire" [An-Nisa: 135]; and immerse yourselves in it as the diligent one does for the one he loves; "that" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: the intention to "be just" [An-Nisa: 135]; it has become clear to you that there is no justice in that.
And when the estimation was: "So if you follow it for that; or for something else; then indeed Allah is All-Powerful over you"; he added to it his saying: "And if you twist" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: your tongues to distort the testimony in a manner of distortion; or you turn your tongues; meaning: you speak the testimony falsely; and Ibn 'Amir and Hamzah read with a Dhamma on the lam; from "the guardianship"; meaning: you perform the testimony in a manner of justice; or "the twisting"; "or you turn away" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: from it; and it is a truth; so do not perform it for some matter; "for indeed Allah" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: the One who encompasses knowledge; and power; "was" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: He has not ceased; nor does He cease; "of what you do All-Aware" [An-Nisa: 135]; meaning: He is fully aware; both inwardly and outwardly; so He will reward you for that with what you deserve; so beware of Him if you betray; and hope for Him if you fulfill; and this is after what has passed of His admonishment to them; in the manner of indication and gesture without command; and how appropriate it is to the conclusion of the one before it; and how strongly the two conclusions are connected; the conclusion of this one with the description of news; and that one with the descriptions of hearing and sight.
And when He commanded justice in this manner; He commanded carrying that; which is belief in the legislator; and the one conveying it; and the book that guides to its laws; clarifying its secrets; which began the story with its truth; and the statement of its benefit; He said: "O you who have believed"; meaning: acknowledge with belief; and when He called them by the description of belief; He commanded them with what cannot be achieved except by it; He said - detailing it -: "Believe in Allah"; meaning: because He is deserving of that by His essence; encompassing all attributes of perfection.
And when belief in Allah is not valid except by belief in the intermediaries; and the closest intermediaries to man is the Messenger; He said: "and His Messenger"; meaning: because he is the one conveying from Him; whether he is from the angels; or from humans; "and the book that was revealed"; meaning: revealed gradually according to the interests; for affirmation and understanding; "upon His Messenger"; meaning: because he is the one detailing your legislation; responsible for what you need from rulings; and admonitions; and all that rectifies you; and it is the Quran reaching you through the noblest of creation; "and the book that was sent down"; meaning: its sending down was established and passed; and when its sending down was not encompassing for the past time; He clarified the intended meaning by His saying: "before"; from the Gospel; and the Psalms; and the Torah; and others because your Messenger conveyed that to you; so belief cannot be achieved except by affirming him in all that he says.
And when the believer, to whom the address is directed, knows that the revelation and the sending down can only be from Allah, it is built for the action in the reading of Ibn Kathir, and Abu Amr, and Ibn Amer, for the knowledge of the doer. The reading of the others has made it clear.
And when the estimation is: 'So whoever believes in that has certainly been guided; and he believes certainly in the angels, and the Last Day, and other than that, of all that the Book and the Messenger have called to'; he has added to it his saying: ﴿And whoever disbelieves﴾; meaning: he brings about disbelief and renews it at times; ﴿in Allah and His angels and His Books﴾; meaning: those which He sent down upon His prophets, by means of His angels, or without a means; ﴿and His messengers﴾; meaning: from the angels and humans. Thus, belief is in the ascent due to the need for it; and disbelief is in the descent due to the audacity towards it.
And when belief in resurrection - even though it is the most evident thing - is something that minds cannot independently grasp; they cannot reach it except through the messengers; He mentioned it after them; and said: ﴿and the Last Day﴾; meaning: that which His messengers have informed about; and sound minds have decreed it; even though they cannot independently comprehend it before the messengers alert them to it. It is the spirit of existence, and its secret, and its sustenance, and its foundation. In it, truths are revealed, and creatures are gathered; and the comprehensiveness of knowledge appears, and the completeness of ability, and the shade of justice is spread, and the fruits of virtue are harvested; ﴿Indeed, he has gone astray﴾; and it is emphasized due to the multitude of those who deny; and he said: ﴿a far astray﴾; meaning: there is no way for his return with him.
