Commentary
And when there was in this a profound threat; and a clarification of the vastness of the kingdom; and the perfection of control; and the matters of those who are greedy in inheritance; and the rights of spouses; and other worldly matters; and it was - glorified and exalted is He - that He had clarified in what has passed that the foundation of the conditions of the hypocrites is based on seeking the fleeting gain, especially; the story of Tu'mah ibn Ubayriq; who was pleased with himself for the disgrace of obtaining something trivial; He said (exalted is He) - to emphasize their opinions; and to belittle their aspirations; as they descended to the lower; while having the ability to seek the higher; with the seeking of the lower also from Him (exalted is He); so nothing escapes them from their reliance; while securing the souls -: "Whoever desires the reward of this world"; for the limitation of their vision to the tangible present; with their baseness; like animals; "Then with Allah"; meaning: let him turn to Allah; for indeed, He is with "Allah"; meaning: the One who has absolute perfection; "the reward of this world"; the trivial and fleeting; "and the Hereafter"; meaning: the precious and everlasting; let him seek it from Him; for indeed, He gives whoever He wills what He desires; and whoever's aspiration is elevated above that; and he turns with his heart to Him; and confines his concern to Him; he does not seek except the everlasting; glorified and exalted is He combined for him between them; like one who strives for Allah sincerely; for indeed, He combines for him between reward; and gain; and how intense their coming together is with that of what preceded it! Because whoever has complete ability; and vast kingdom is like that. And when the arising from the will is either a saying or an action; and the action may be internal, He said: "And Allah"; meaning: the One who is characterized by all attributes of perfection; "Hearing"; meaning: the One who comprehensively hears every saying; even if it is hidden; whether it is internal or verbal; "Seeing"; meaning: the One who comprehensively sees everything that can be seen from actions; and the knowledge of everything that is seen; and what is not seen; from it and from others; so it is from sight; and from insight; let the servant observe Him in saying and action.
