Commentary
And when the weaning of their souls from preventing children and women was difficult for them, due to their familiarity with it over the long ages of their adherence to it and their approval of it, He - glorified and exalted is He - followed it with encouragement and warning, so that they would not be deceived by the description of the forbearing. He said - magnifying the matter with a tool of distance and pointing to all that has preceded regarding the matters of inheritance, women, orphans, and others -: ﴿These﴾; meaning: these noble limits of great benefit, mentioned from the beginning of this Surah, rather from the beginning of the Qur'an; ﴿are the limits of Allah﴾; meaning: the Most Great King. So whoever observes them - even if he does not intend to obey Him, but rather to elevate himself above the baseness of being attached to the transient and the disgrace of monopolizing the weak, which indicates stinginess and low ambition - will attain great good. For it is near that this will lead him to be among those who obey Allah; ﴿and whoever obeys Allah﴾; the one who possesses the attributes of majesty and honor; ﴿and His Messenger﴾; meaning: in all his commands, these and others, by turning towards them and leaving what is besides them for His sake - glorified and exalted is He -; Al-Asbahani said: "Whoever"; is general, and its occurrence after these specific obligations does not restrict it.
And when the listener was fully eager for the news, he turned to it, magnifying the matter - according to the reading of Nafi and Ibn Amir with the noon - and said: "We will admit him to gardens"; meaning: orchards; and the reading of the congregation with the ya is also great, as it is based on the greatest name; although this is more stimulating with the pleasure of turning. ﴿Rivers flow beneath them﴾; meaning: because their land is the source of waters; so wherever you desire, a river flows; it remains lush and fresh. And He gathered the winners with the entry into Paradise in His saying: ﴿They will abide therein﴾; giving good news of the abundance of those who stand at these limits; and because the companionship of brothers is among the highest delights of Paradise. And when their specialty in inheritance from women and children was among the victories for them; rather, the great victory for them was only the possession of wealth and the attainment of what they hoped for from it; He (the Exalted) - magnifying with a tool of distance - said: ﴿And that﴾; meaning: the high matter of the obedience that is recommended; ﴿is the great victory﴾; meaning: not other than it from the possession of what Allah has not permitted. And this is the most suitable thing for presenting encouragement, so that their souls may allow them to leave what they were in, along with the kindness towards this Ummah and the good news for him ﷺ that it is an obedient and guided one.
