Tafsir for verse: 4:116
116Surely, Allah does not forgive that a partner is ascribed to Him, and forgives anything short of that for whomsoever He wills. Whoever ascribes a partner to Allah has indeed gone far astray.

Commentary

And when the doer of that; after the clarification of guidance; are the people of the Book; and those who misled them from the hypocrites; by what they cast to them of doubts; they returned them to the darkness of polytheism and doubt; after their eyes were dazzled by the rays of monotheism; it was fitting to grant him His saying - glorified and exalted is He - explaining; to magnify the people of Islam; and urging adherence to their guidance; and condemning those who opposed them; and threatening him; indicating that whoever breaks the consensus of the Muslims, his ruling is the ruling of the polytheists; so how about one who opposes the messengers: ﴿Indeed, Allah﴾; meaning: the Absolute One; there is no equal to Him; ﴿does not forgive that partners be associated with Him﴾; meaning: the occurrence of polytheism with Him; from any person; and by any means; because whoever insults the King deserves destruction and ruin; and the thief of the shield is the most deserving of that; ﴿and He forgives what﴾; meaning: everything that is ﴿less than that﴾; meaning: the matter that leaves no place for disgrace - as is the case of one who submits; and enters into the bond of servitude; then his desire overcomes him and he falls short in some types of service; then he indicated the authority of his matter by His saying: ﴿for whom He wills﴾.

And when the estimation was: "So indeed, whoever associates partners with Him has certainly committed a manifest sin"; he connected to it His saying: ﴿And whoever associates﴾; meaning: commits this filthy act indeed; at any time; whether in the past; or present; or future; continuously renewing it; ﴿with Allah﴾; meaning: the King who has no dispute in His uniqueness in greatness; because there is no concealment in that for anyone; ﴿has certainly gone astray﴾; meaning: he has strayed from the path that leads; ﴿a far astray﴾; the safety of the one who commits it is not possible; and he omitted the introduction of the falsehood; which is the deliberate lying; and mentioned the introduction of the misguidance; because most of the context is for the Arabs; the people of idols; and ignorance among them is widespread; unlike what has passed for the people of the Book; for their disbelief is out of knowledge; thus it is a deliberate act of lying.
