Commentary
And when the people of Tu'mah had conspired with the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in defending him; He, glorified and exalted is He, alerted them and others to what should be the nature of their conspiracy; and it is good in it to have optimism and attraction; in a manner that prohibits others with the strongest prohibition; by His saying, glorified and exalted is He: "There is no good in much of their secret counsel"; meaning: the secret counsel of all those who conspire; "except for one who"; meaning: the counsel of one who; "commands charity"; and when He specified charity due to the value of wealth in that situation; He generalized with His saying: "or good deeds"; meaning: any good deed that is permitted by the Shari'ah; from charity and others.
And when the reconciliation of relations is a great matter; He emphasized its importance by specifying it; with His saying: "or reconciliation between people"; meaning: in general; for He, glorified and exalted is He, clarified that anything not excluded from the conspiracy has no good in it; and everything from which good is absent is to be avoided - as Ahmad narrated; and Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabir; with a chain that is acceptable; and this is its wording; (p-401) from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: "Indeed, matters are three: a matter whose guidance has become clear to you, so follow it; a matter whose misguidance has become clear to you, so avoid it; and a matter in which there is disagreement, so refer it to its scholar."
And when the meaning is: "So whoever commands something from that, then his secret counsel is good; and he has a reward for it"; He added to it His saying: "And whoever does that"; meaning: the great matter that he was commanded with from these things; "seeking the pleasure of Allah"; who has the attributes of perfection; for indeed, the action has no spirit except with intention; "then We will surely give him"; meaning: in the Hereafter; with a promise that there is no changing of it; "a great reward"; and this verse is one of the greatest proofs that what is required from outward actions is the care for the conditions of the heart in sincerity of intention; and the purification of the call from turning towards a worldly purpose; for if it is for show, it becomes inverted; and it becomes one of the greatest evils.
