Commentary
And when it became known from that that the verses of jihad in this surah are a teacher for caution; out of fear of harm; a guide to perfecting stratagems; to escape from danger; it was a cause for the soul to follow up; and to exaggerate in it; and it is a cause for negligence in the matter of jihad; he followed that with His saying (the Most High) - warning about seriousness in His matter; and that He did not leave in prayer; nor in anything else; that which occupies from it; connecting to the manner of: "So do what I have commanded you"; or to: ﴿So establish the prayer﴾ [An-Nisa: 103] -: ﴿And do not weaken﴾; meaning: do not become weak; and do not be negligent by engaging in remembrance; nor prayer; for I have made that easy for you in a way that does not hinder from anything of the matter of jihad; ﴿In seeking the people﴾; meaning: seeking them with effort; even if they are at the height of strength and fulfilling matters; then He justified that with His saying: ﴿If you are suffering﴾; meaning: you experience pain; and hardship in jihad; from killing and what is less than that; ﴿Then they are suffering as you are suffering﴾; meaning: because they experience from that what you experience; so do not let them be more patient on their falsehood than you are on your truth.
And when He clarified what would prevent them from weakness; because it is shared among them; He clarified what carries them to advance; due to its specificity to Him; so He said: ﴿And you hope﴾; meaning: you; ﴿from Allah﴾; meaning: the One who has all the beautiful names; and the highest attributes; ﴿What they do not hope﴾; meaning: of victory; and determination; and generosity; and kindness; because you fight in it; and they fight for the devil; and this is for everyone who enjoins what is good; and forbids what is evil; whether that is in jihad against the disbelievers; or not. And when knowledge is the foundation of all good; and wisdom, which is the end of knowledge; and the ultimate ability; is the gathering of the highest attributes; He said (the Most High): ﴿And Allah﴾; meaning: the One commanding you with these commands; and He is the All-Encompassing of all things; ﴿Is All-Knowing﴾; meaning: of profound knowledge; for He does not command except with what is of perfect goodness; rectifying for religion; and the world; ﴿Wise﴾; for He perfects for whom He commands the conditions; and guides him in speech; and actions; so whoever knows from Him good, He desires it for him and elevates him in the ranks of happiness; and whoever knows from Him evil, He plots against him; so He lowers his foundation and his end.
