Commentary
And when the estimation was: 'How good are these; and how beautiful when they called you for associating partners with Allah; and they did not worship Him as He should be worshiped; when they associated partners with Him'; he added to it his saying: 'And they did not estimate Allah'; and he manifested the greatest name in its best position; so he said: 'Allah'; meaning: the greatest king; 'as He should be estimated'; meaning: they did not glorify Him as is due to Him; for if time were to be consumed in His worship; and in sincere obedience to Him; to the extent that nothing would be free from it; that would not be His true estimation; so how if some of it were free from it?! So how if others were equated with Him?!
And when he mentioned the greatness of everything that is attributed to Him; it indicated His astonishing power; which is necessary for grasping and folding; by what occurs in the state of folding this universe; he said - as a metaphor for greatness by that -: ﴿and the earth﴾; meaning: while it is; and he preceded it for their direct engagement with it; and their knowledge of its reality; and when what they perceive of it in terms of vastness and size is sufficient for greatness; even if they do not perceive that it is seven; he confirmed with what is suitable for all its levels; as a reminder for the discerning that it is seven; without explicitly stating it; he said: ﴿all together﴾; and when the least and lightest thing for a human is what he holds in his grasp; he exemplified that in his saying - informing about the beginning; singular with the opening of the qaf; because it is more appropriate in belittling great things in relation to His magnificent greatness -: ﴿His grasp﴾. And when there are in this world those who claim kingship, power, greatness, and ability; and the matter in the Hereafter is contrary to this; due to the cessation of causes; he said: ﴿on the Day of Resurrection﴾; and there is no grasp there in reality; nor metaphorically; and likewise folding and the right hand; rather it is an example; and an imagination for the completeness of ability; and when they knew that the heavens are seven; congruent; by what they observe of the movement of the stars; he gathered; so that it would be with “all together”; like the explicit statement in all the earth as well; in his saying: ﴿and the heavens are folded﴾; and when the upper world is more noble; he honored it when exemplifying with the right hand; so he said: ﴿with His right hand﴾; and when this is merely an example by what we are accustomed to; and the intended meaning is the ultimate in ability; he glorified His sacred self from what might be clung to by anthropomorphists; and those who liken Him; so he said: ﴿Glorified is He﴾; meaning: His ability is exalted from this ability; from every blemish of deficiency; and what leads to deficiency from polytheism; and anthropomorphism; and what resembles it; ﴿and exalted﴾; an exaltation that cannot be encompassed; ﴿above what they associate﴾; meaning: indeed His exaltation above that is the exaltation of one who exceeds in it; so He is at the utmost of exaltation; beyond which there is no limit; for if He had a partner, he would have contested Him for this ability; or some of it; preventing Him from something of it; and these objects of worship of theirs; have no ability over anything; Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih; in Tawhid; and others; from Abdullah - may Allah be pleased with him - who said: "A rabbi from the Jews came to the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - and said: 'When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will place the heavens on one finger; and the earths on one finger; and the water and the dust on one finger; and the creatures on one finger; then He will distinguish between them; then He will say: (I am the King);' so I saw the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - laughing until his molars appeared - in amazement; and in affirmation of his words - then the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - said: ﴿And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal﴾; to: ﴿they associate﴾." And the two Shaykhs narrated from Ibn Umar - may Allah be pleased with both of them - who said: The Messenger of Allah - blessings and peace be upon him - said: "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will fold the heavens; then He will take them in His right hand; then He will say: (I am the King; where are the tyrants? Where are the proud?)" And Al-Bukhari narrated from Abu Huraira - may Allah be pleased with him - from the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - who said: "Allah will grasp the earth on the Day of Resurrection; and fold the heavens with His right hand; then He will say: (I am the King; where are the kings of the earth?)".
