And when the precedence indicates specificity; and they did not call him for specificity; but for cessation; which necessitates polytheism; it was clarified that it is specificity; in that the deity is self-sufficient from everything; so He does not accept any action in which there is polytheism; and whenever the slightest polytheism occurs, that entire action is for the one who committed polytheism; thus the specification was - clarifying the reason for His command to say to them what has preceded; rejecting them -: "Say such and such; for it has been revealed to you; and to those before you; the obligation of monotheism"; and He added to His saying - affirming; for the sake of what has settled in the souls that whoever does something for someone is accepted; whether it is in the form of partnership; or not -: ﴿And certainly﴾; and when the revealed was known to him ﷺ; he based his saying for the action: ﴿It has been revealed to you﴾; and when the generalization is more conducive to acceptance; he said: ﴿and to those who﴾; and when the sending is only for some time; for some people; he said: ﴿before you﴾; and when the ruling on a people may be a ruling on the whole; with the condition of the gathering; he specified; clarifying that - while it is a ruling on the whole - it is a ruling on every individual; and because the address of the leader is an address to his followers; as he is their example.
And when it was revealed to them that whoever commits polytheism, his work becomes void; whether it is he; or someone else; his saying is correct - in the singular, in a manner similar to: "Indeed, polytheism nullifies the action"; and it stands in place of the doer; and he shifted from it to what he mentioned; because it is greater in prohibition; and more effective in deterring those who are qualified for it from the nation; and he affirmed that the polytheists deny its meaning to the utmost denial -: ﴿If﴾; meaning: it has been revealed to each of you this expression; and it is: "By My honor, if you ﴿commit polytheism﴾; meaning: anything from the things; in any of your actions for Allah; and it is from the necessity of impossibility; he mentioned it like this to be more magnificent for the followers; and the action after "if"; the conditional for the future; he shifted here from expressing in the present tense; for the correspondence between the expression; and the meaning; because the verse preceded to allude to the disbelievers; thus the expression in the past was more appropriate; to indicate by its wording that whoever has committed polytheism has indeed lost; and by its meaning that whoever falls into that is likewise.
And when the warning was established, he responded to the threat and the oath by saying: ﴿Surely, it will be invalidated﴾; meaning: it will be corrupted and your work will be nullified; so there will remain no trace of it from the perspective of the Able One; because he associated partners with Him in it; and He is Self-Sufficient and accepts only the pure; because He has no need for anything; and as for from the perspective of others, it is because they cannot do anything. And since the context is for threatening; and the worship includes what has preceded regarding associating partners with Him from the deeds; and what has come after it; He did not limit it to being connected to death; being sufficient with its limitation in the verse of 'Al-Baqarah'; and He said: ﴿And surely, you will be among the losers﴾; meaning: for the sake of its invalidation; ﴿of the losers﴾; for indeed, whoever's entire work has gone, there is no doubt about his loss; and the address is to the leaders in this manner - even if the intended meaning is in reality their followers - it serves as a deterrent for the followers; and it shakes the hearts and ears of them.
