Commentary
And when he mentioned the state of those whom He has made miserable, he followed it with the state of those whom He has made happy. He said - connecting one statement to another; not to 'you see'; the context being for the Day of Resurrection; indicating that this is His action with them in both abodes; and indicating the abundance of salvation; due to the multitude of horrors that exceed enumeration: ﴿And He saves﴾; meaning: absolute salvation; for some of those who are pious; as indicated by the reading of Ya'qub; with the lightening; and a great salvation for some of them; as conveyed by the reading of the others; with the emphasis; and it was made clear; and He did not imply; an addition to the magnification of their state; and the calming of their hearts; ﴿Allah﴾; meaning: He acts; with what He has of the attributes of perfection; in their salvation, the action of one who is excessive in that; ﴿Those who are pious﴾ (p-543) meaning: they have been excessive in protecting themselves from His anger; just as He protected them in this world from transgressions; He protected them there from punishments; ﴿By their success﴾; meaning: because they considered themselves in a far-off success; frightening; so they refrained in it from every action except with evidence; so that they do not act without evidence and perish; thus their piety led them to success; which is the attainment of what is desired; and its time; and its place which is called success in optimism; and for this reason, Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with him - interpreted success as good deeds; because they are the cause of success; and it was read in the plural; considering the types of the source; and all of that is by the care of Allah for them in both abodes; so the success of each person in the Hereafter is according to the extent of their success in obedience in this world.
And when it was as if it was said: What did He do in their salvation? He said - recalling the result of the salvation -: ﴿No evil shall touch them﴾; meaning: this type; so they do not fear; ﴿Nor shall they grieve﴾; meaning: nor shall sorrow reach their innermost being for what is missed; because nothing is missed for them at all.
