Commentary
And when the creation of animals is more indicative of the Oneness and Sovereignty; by what it differs from inanimate objects in terms of life; which cannot detach from it before its appointed time; and by what it has of necessary matters; from which it cannot escape; and optional matters that are outwardly entrusted to its will; and he found the creation of man most astonishing; due to his power of speech; he said - indicating what he indicated by the creation of the heavens and the earth; directing the saying to the entire species; signaling their readiness for discourse; and their elevation in the heights of causes; without any exception; signaling that each of their creations; and the creation of those before them; is independent in indicating what it was meant for -: ﴿He created you﴾; meaning: O people; those who claim the divinity of others; ﴿from one soul﴾; it is Adam - peace be upon him.
And when our existence from it was after the splitting of the female from it; he said - adding to what he decrees: "He created her from dust"; clarifying by the word of making that the male is its cause; and its material; alerting with the tool of delay regarding the sovereignty; which the context is for; by delaying the caused from its cause which necessitates it; until the time of His will; because its creation from him was after a period from his creation; and the original in causes is the arrangement of the caused upon it; without delay; and also regarding the delay in rank; by the fact that this - due to its strong distinction from its origin - is one of the most astonishing wonders -: ﴿Then﴾; meaning: after a while; and he expressed by making; because it is sufficient in negating the partnership; which this is its method; and to clarify that he did not create Adam - peace be upon him - except to be a cause for what occurs from him of offspring; so that the showing of what He has - glorified and exalted is He - of the attributes of perfection would follow that; so he said: ﴿He made from it﴾; meaning: that soul; ﴿its mate﴾; meaning: and He transferred you after your creation from him; to her; then He brought you forth into external existence from her; and it is permissible - and it is better - that the meaning is - because the context is for encompassing the knowledge indicated by the sending down of the Book and what followed it -: He decreed your creation according to what you are upon of number; and colors; and all forms; when He created Adam; by preparing him so that you may flow from him; so you do not increase upon what He has decreed anything; nor decrease; and that his wife may flow from him; and that was before the creation of Hawwa from him; then He created her; so the flow from her was a flow from him; so all is from him; and for this the hadith was reported; in the Musnad of Ahmad ibn Mani' from Abu al-Darda' - may Allah be pleased with him - from the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - who said: "Allah created Adam on the day He created him; and struck his right shoulder; so He brought forth a white offspring as if they were dust; and struck his left shoulder; so He brought forth a black offspring as if they were coals; and He said to those on his right: (To Paradise; and I do not care) and said to those on his left: (To the Fire; and I do not care)."
And when the diversification of animals into distinct types indicates the power, which is the source of dominance; and He - glorified and exalted is He - is described with exaltation; and most of the livestock is stronger than humans; so His subjugation of them; and their humiliation is a reduction from their strength; and a belittling of their might. He said - indicating this creation; and the making; by the word of descent -: "And He has sent down for you"; meaning: specifically; "from the livestock"; meaning: camels; in both types; and cattle likewise; and sheep; and goats; and when there were no Bakhati camels; and buffalo among the Arabs; He did not mention them - glorified is He -; and He limited it to what was among them; and He said: "Eight pairs"; meaning: from each type two pairs; male and female; and "the pair" is a name for one along with another; its benefit is not complete except with it; and when you look at this phrase; alongside the phrase about the creation of humans; you understand that all the livestock was created; both its males and females; individually; not that one of them is from its companion; and that is more indicative of the absolute ability; and its diversification; than if He had made their creation like the creation of Adam.
And when their formation in their development is astonishing; He said - beginning anew; explaining what He summarized before -: "He creates you"; meaning: He determines your existence; you and the livestock; based on what you are upon of mixed elements; "in the wombs of your mothers"; and when the development of creation is inside the womb where no hand of a created being reaches it; nor does his sight; He said - indicating His greatness; and its indication of the completeness of power; and dominance -: "creation"; and it indicated His making of something after something; by affirming the letter; so He said: "after creation"; meaning: in the transitions of stages; and changes of phases; and when the animal is not known what it is except in the fourth development; and ignorance is darkness; He said: "in three darknesses"; the darkness of the sperm; then the clot; then the lump; and when it becomes bones covered with flesh, it is known whether it is male or female; the darkness of ignorance is removed from it; and it becomes another creation; and it is said; the darkness of the womb; and the uterus; and the placenta; it was reported from Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with both of them -; and Ibn Abi Dunya attributed it in the book of "Contentment" to Jesus son of Mary - peace be upon him.
And when it was established for Him - glorified and exalted is He - the perfection of greatness and dominance; He said - resuming what the previous words produced; magnifying with the tool of distance; and the letter of plurality -: ﴿That is﴾; meaning: the one of high ranks; by your testimony - O creation - all of you; some of you with the tongue of his saying; and some of you with the expression of his state; which all that has been mentioned from the beginning of the Surah to here; are His actions; and when He indicated His greatness with the tool of distance; He informed about the name of the indication; so He said: ﴿Allah﴾; meaning: the one who encompasses all attributes of perfection; and He alerted them to their ignorance; regarding what they know of His lordship; for their actions of associating partners with Him are the actions of one ignorant of that; so He said - describing -: ﴿Your Lord﴾; meaning: the owner; and the one who nurtures you with creation; and provision; and when the nurturer may not be a king; He said - as a result of what has preceded -: ﴿To Him﴾; meaning: alone; ﴿is the kingdom﴾; and when the one who is exclusive to the kingdom may not be a deity; He said - affirming for Him divinity; as it necessitates from the oneness; and it is like the result of the result -: ﴿There is no deity except Him﴾.
And when this context ensured the necessity of sincerity in turning to Him; and turning away from anything else; because all are under His dominance; and the comprehensiveness of His prohibition and command; it caused His saying: ﴿So how﴾; meaning: how? And from which aspect ﴿are you turned away﴾? Meaning: forcefully from sincerity to Him; to associating partners with Him; by any means; even if it is great; and He alerted with the passive construction - along with this - that they are overpowered in doing what they are upon; because they are followers of absolute destruction; abandoning the evidence which there is no ambiguity in any of it; and it is known that no one abandons the evidence in the parched wilderness; which if he abandons it, he perishes; except by force; and that people have been prepared for the path of guidance; by what they were created upon of the best form; with the soundness of instincts; and the uprightness of minds; and He indicated this because they disdain the relation to being overpowered; and to do anything without choice; due to their pride; and high aspirations; and greatness.
