Commentary

And when He warned - glorified and exalted is He - about what would be taken from the bad states and the terrible conditions; and the meaning of what preceded from his lying and wishing was that: no clarification came to me; nor did I have time in which I could act. Allah, the Exalted, said - refuting him -: ﴿Yes﴾; meaning: both matters have certainly come to you; ﴿Indeed, it has come to you﴾; and He directed the saying to speaking; while stripping the pronoun of the appearance of greatness; due to what preceded from the necessities of its presence; informing of the extremity of anger; after directing it to reminding the addressed self; indicating that it acted in disobedience like the actions of the strong tyrants; from lying and arrogance; with the apparent ability to contemplate the verses; and clarifying the indications; and walking on the paths of guidance after its feminine form indicated its weakness in bearing the punishment; and the predominance of deficiencies over it; so He said: ﴿My signs﴾; for their greatness in the statement; which there is no statement like it at a time when you were able to act with the heart, the tongue, and the limbs; (p-541) ﴿So you denied them﴾; in audacity against Allah; and a lack of concern for the consequences; ﴿And you were arrogant﴾; meaning: you regarded yourself as too great to accept them; ﴿And you were﴾; meaning: a being as if it were a nature for you; due to your deep immersion in it; and your eagerness for it; ﴿Among the disbelievers﴾; meaning: those entrenched in concealing what has appeared of the lights of guidance; out of denial in arrogance; there was nothing preventing you from doing good except that; not the absence of clarification; nor the absence of a time suitable for action.
